Fly Sh*t

Since it's been such a bad year for flies around here (they have been taking the mickey out of the Robocan for months[}
][}
]). Does anyone have any top tips for getting fly sh*t off. The bathroom is easy cos it's all hardiglaze, so washes off easy peasy. But the ceilings with flat paint are a nightmare, even after a scrub you can still see a little brown stain.[:0]
I suppose I could try suspending a chicken from the ceiling, they seem quite adept at catching flies

Janola & Water. I know this 'cause I have spent AGES getting all the fly shite off all the ceilings in two houses so they could all be painted.
In fact, any bleach will do, it doens't need to be a name brand. [

I just use Simple Green and a sponge mop to clean the ceilings (same as you, flat ceiling paint) - spray a little on the dampened mop, and mop away. I hate fly specks!!

yeah-I use the magic mop thingy i have. Just wipe over to dampen first then before it dries go back and start "mopping". Once the fly crapis wet it is HEAPS easier tojust wipe off without so much hard work........My place is Fly crap city!!!Must admit- I have got so sick of it I pay a cleaner tocome in once a fortnight and wipealldoors and door frames.She is progressively cleaning every ceiling in the house too!!

Hi I find liquid ajax the best in a little water, it cleans up the fly spot and disenfects the ceiling for mould etc at the same time. Cheers.

I know its too late now but when you next get the overwhelming urge to paint your ceilings do not use ceiling paint! it is rubbish! i only ever use dulux wash and wear....everything washes off it and really easily and its not much dearer than ceiling paint

Why is it rubbish? I haven't noticed any difference with wiping it and wiping the walls... we used... um... Taubmans ceiling paint second time round (after using British Paints - now THAT was rubbish! Hm... maybe it depends on the paint used?)

We just used cheap ceiling paint - we use Reserve zylon low sheen on all our walls, which is a water based enamel. things clean off so easy. Bloody flies sh*t on the ceiling most though.....dammit!

my solution - ignore it, having just painted the toilet yesterday, there is already fly poo on it, it is a pointless exercise, so I learn to live with it. But then we are plagued by lake flies, so probably get more than out share of flies.

I have never understood why people use flat paint for ceilings as it does show every mark and is harder to wipe. Low sheen for me every time. Also, why use white for the ceilings? We have cream walls and ceilings all through but wouldn't pale shades of other colours would be okay?

yes, Jennie, in hindsight I agree with the type of paint. I like white ceilings, and have never been mad keen on painting everything the same colour - especially in older houses....
Moggy, why clean it? Cos we are going to try and sell the house.... only reason!

I use baby wipes too. They are the absolute best - I get a lot of flies crapping on the computer and tv etc as well as on the walls, and the wipes work marvellously on those as well.

Yes enamel paint will always clean really easily because it isn't porus like acrylic paint. The new "water based enamel" paints are also very smooth and non porus but are quite expensive. With wash and wear you get a very easy to clean acrylic paint. The flatter the finish, harder to clean. eg a high gloss enamel paint is like wiping down say.....plastic. Hmmmm i'm not explaining this very well lol. However for ceilings i think they look awful in gloss paint
